The Oshwal Community has identified education as one of its main pillars as it seeks to achieve its vision of becoming a socially responsible organization in Eastern Africa. The community already has a presence in the education sector and has plans to increase its presence even further. The OERB believes that the best way of empowering the community is through education programs that help fight ignorance and that give skills to various persons to make a difference in their communities. The following are some of the existing educational institutions run by the OERB in Kenya:
Health is one of the key challenges that needs to be addressed through focused interventions by governments, people and organizations in Eastern Africa. The Oshwal Community, under the leadership of the OERB, is keen to play a greater role in the development of healthcare services for community members and the general public. In this regard, various Visa Oshwal Community centres in the country are running projects that will help to improve medical welfare. This includes expanding access to insurance, provision of medical aid to community members, encouraging healthy living which includes exercise, yoga and healthy eating, among other initiatives.
The Oshwal Community in Eastern Africa remains concerned about the pervasive levels of poverty that affects the livelihoods of many people in the region. On its part, the community has made the alleviation of poverty one of its key goals. The community provides support to members who are at risk of experiencing poverty related problems and supports them on their journey towards financial stability. The community is also an active player in poverty alleviation programs targeting members of the general public in Kenya and the Eastern Africa region. The community regularly makes donations and supports empowerment programs targeting the poor in the region.
The Oshwal Community already has a strong economic presence in various sectors in the Kenyan economy. Members of the community have become successful entrepreneurs in Kenya. In this respect, the OERB fully intends to provide members of the community with the skills and opportunities to become entrepreneurs. It also has programs designed to benefit members of the public to empower them to become successful entrepreneurs. The measures the OERB is taking include developing an economic fund, training, mentoring and encouraging the growth of small scale, cottage and home-based industries.
Environmental concern is one of the key issues that everyone on earth must take seriously. It is becoming more apparent that human beings are an active player in the degradation of the environment all over the world. The Oshwal Community has a long tradition of environmental concern. The respect for life and nature taught to all Oshwals makes them keen to conserve the environment. In this respect, the OERB is involved in various programs that help conserve the environment. A key part of this is sensitizing the community on the importance of respect for all forms of life, both plant and animal.
